Basic Information
New Parishioners
We welcome all the new parishioners who have recently
joined this parish. As you know, every Catholic family
must be registered in a parish of their choosing. The parish then assumes
responsibility for that family in the administration of the Sacraments and the
pastor becomes "their" priest. That is why we have to actually register before
we can be classified as a member. We have these registration forms available in
the church porch; please complete one and then hand it
into the Office, place it in the collection basket, or give it to Father
Richard.
You will notice that in this church we try to have a sense of
quietness before and after Holy Mass so as to give an opportunity for people to
have a few moments of personal prayer. Then when we go outside we can talk and
greet one another. You will also notice that during the Creed, we bow profoundly
during the words "by the power of the Holy Spirit, He
was born of the Virgin Mary and became man." When we
come forward to receive Holy Communion, we
also either genuflect or bow while the person before
us is receiving the Host. Having received the Host, we step aside for a moment
before proceeding to receive the Precious Blood (where we again, based on the
new changes, make a bow or
genuflection). The minister will hand us the chalice;
take it firmly in both hands, taking your time before handing it back. If you
are not receiving the Precious Blood, you proceed directly to your bench to
kneel down, placing your right hand momentarily over your heart as you pass
the Chalice (new change). We then kneel and pray until the
Tabernacle door is closed after Communion.
Whenever we enter or leave our bench, except at Communion time, we
genuflect, or if unable to do this, we bow profoundly.
Your responsibility is to support by prayer and involvement in parish
activities, and by sharing your time, talent and treasure in a realistic and
practical way. The days of just attending Sunday Mass and putting a few dollars
in the basket are long gone. Many years ago, this parish decided to take their
Catholic Life seriously, whereby each member would give some time each week in
active participation in parish affairs as well as financially supporting the
parish by using the weekly envelopes for parish expenses, and the Building Fund
envelopes for paying off the Building Debts. It was agreed that the minimum
amount given in the Collection basket in loose cash by an adult would be $5.00,
$2.00 from teenagers and $1.00 from young children. This would, of course, not
refer to families who use the weekly envelopes.

Ministries
As members of the Laity of the Church, we are all asked to consider and
reflect on our contribution of Time, Talent and Treasure. There are 44
designated ministries that provide assistance to our Pastor and Associate Pastor
in administering to the needs of our Parishioners as well as the support of
others - a prime example of which is the Tucker Mission in Cambodia
(see information below) which cares
for children that have contracted Aids through no fault of their own. You are
encouraged to browse the Web Site, and in particular, the
"Get Involved" page
which lists the ministries (including external community service organizations) and points of contact. Hopefully, you will find
something that interests you, or, you may get an idea for a new ministry that
you can discuss with our Pastor.
Please Note: The Ethics and Integrity in
Ministry (EIM) policies of the Austin Diocese were established in 2002 to
help educate Catholics on how to help prevent sexual abuse of minors and
vulnerable adults. All Parish employees and volunteers who
minister to youth or vulnerable adults (this has been interpreted to mean ANY
ministry in this Parish) are required to complete an Application for Ministry, which permits
the diocese to run a criminal background check. Additionally, all new
applicants are required to attend a three-hour EIM workshop for adults within 60
days of their EIM application submission.
Every three years employees and volunteers must attend
an EIM refresher course or the three-hour EIM workshop.
St. Paul Parish periodically schedules the workshop - check the Parish Bulletin
or Web Site. Registration is required because materials must be ordered
for each attendee. In addition, you may attend workshops and/or
refresher courses given in other parishes...again, you must register prior to the
event with that particular parish. Please call the location you would like to attend at the phone
number listed and register, so that enough materials are available. For more
information regarding the diocesan EIM policies, visit
www.austindiocese.org or call (512)
949-2400.
(Check the Catholic Spirit [Diocesan Newspaper]
for a complete list of new schedules.)
PASTORAL SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE
The Diocese of Austin is committed to providing confidential and
compassionate care to victims of sexual abuse, particularly if the abuse was
committed by clergy or a church representative. If you have experienced abuse by
someone representing the Catholic Church, please contact the diocesan
coordinator of pastoral care at (512)949-2400.
HOW
TO REPORT AN INCIDENT OF CONCERN!
[The reporting requirement of the Ethics
and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Policies of the Diocese of Austin (5th Ed.,
2011) states:
"In accordance with Texas law, any citizen who has cause to believe a minor
or vulnerable adult is being, or may have been, abused, is required to report
his or her suspicions to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
(TDFPS) or local civil authorities (police). To report child or elder abuse,
TDFPS maintains a 24-hour abuse hotline at 1-800-252-5400; or a report may be
made on their website at
www.dfps.state.tx.us . This reporting requirement is the same for
allegations against Church personnel and/or a parent or caregiver. Once reported
to civil authorities, suspected or known abuse of a minor or vulnerable person
that may involve Church personnel, and/or other suspected or observed violations
of the Ethics and Integrity in Ministry Policies of the Diocese of Austin, shall
be reported immediately to any of the following persons: their immediate
supervisor; the pastor of the parish or principal of the school; a designated
representative of the Diocese (contact information is on page 4 of these
policies); or one may submit an anonymous, specific and verifiable letter to the
Vicar General or Bishop of Austin."
At EIM Basic and Refresher workshops held
throughout the diocese, participants are informed about these requirements and
procedures (for a listing of the current workshop schedule, visit
www.austindiocese.org and click on
"EIM Workshops" in the "Quick Links" box).]

Catholic Spirit, Vol. 30, Number 1, January 2012, p. 22.)
Tucker Cambodian Mission
John and Kathy Tucker are parishioners who are lay missionaries currently
serving in Cambodia (they were previously in Mexico for several years).
The organization they support is called the New Hope
for Cambodian Children. These children are the innocent
victims of Aids, left orphaned by parents who are dying or have died from the
disease. Some have relatives who are ill-equipped to provide for them, but
many do not. National/local government support for these children is
minimal to non-existent. "New Hope" provides shelter, food and medicine for
these children who are residents in the "village," and medicine and other
support for those who continue to live with a grandparent or other relative.
The Tuckers have organized a quilting group that produces hand-made quilts which
are then sold to provide a source of income and a sense of dignity to the
workers. The Parish supports the Tuckers in their mission by direct
monetary contributions, by individual parishioners sponsoring one or more of the
children, and by serving as a sales outlet for the quilts which are
periodically sent or hand-carried by the Tuckers during their semi-annual
visits. Your support is encouraged.
(Note: Father Richard has visited the
Tuckers in Cambodia, and has shared his admiration with the Parish for the
outstanding program that has been established there. Talk with him if you
have questions.)

Christmas Greetings from some of the
Children, John & Kathy Tucker and Staff at New Hope for Cambodian Children
(2011)
A Special Book
Our deceased parishioners will be remembered in a special book which will
be perpetually kept
in the Sanctuary of the Church. We will reserve these books for our parishioners who
have died since the parish opened. If you have a family member
whose name you wish inscribed in this book, please provide Name, Date of Birth, and Date
of Death to Father Richard at your convenience.
Liturgical Bowing At Mass
When we recite the Creed at Mass, it is the proper liturgical gesture to make a profound
bow while we recite the words "by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the
Virgin Mary and became man." On Christmas Day and the Feast of the
Annunciation, we genuflect. We also
either genuflect or bow while the person before us
is receiving the Host during Holy Communion, whether at
Mass or during a Communion Service.

HABITAT RESTORE
If you haven’t been
by the Habitat ReStore, located at 2601 Atkinson Ave, Killeen, in a
while, you really should stop by. We’ve gotten in tons (and I do
mean tons) of donated material from BMC West and from Fort Hood.
For a couple of weeks you couldn’t even get a vehicle in our
parking lot because we were just overwhelmed with material. We’ve
got it fairly organized now, though we’ve still got some work to do
on that, but at least we can get vehicles in and out of the gate
now.
If you’re doing
work on your home, workshop, garage, yard, etc… you really should
come by and check it out. We’ve got just about anything you need
for building or remodeling and our prices are the best for miles
around.
Funds raised from
the ReStore are used to help us in our effort to eliminate poverty
housing.
The ReStore’s hours
are Tuesday – Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm.
