FROM THE DESK OF
FR. CIARAN
Dear Parishioners,
As you look forward to the return of your Pastor, Father Richard, on Monday - rejuvenated after his vacation - I take this opportunity to once again express my sincere gratitude to you for the warm welcome. It was great being with you. I leave you with some food for thought:
• An interesting irony of life is we find what we seek by giving it away. How do we make friends? Isn't it by first becoming one? How do we win respect? By first respecting others. The principle applies to a grateful heart. The more we try to give it away, the more it multiplies and comes back to us. Be kind, be generous, and be helpful. And when you are, you will discover you live in a kind, generous, and helpful world.
• We are born for love - one another and God. It is the principle of existence and its only end. Love is what we are born with, fear is what we learn. The essence of love is kindness. Those who genuinely love are kind, gentle, and humble. When we immerse ourselves in love, we get a taste of eternity, for brief is life but love is eternal.
God Bless and thanks - until next time.
Fr. Ciaran McCarthy, M.S.C.
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
"O Sacred Heart of Jesus, Savior of the world and source of all holiness, we ask You to implant in the hearts of young men and women in this parish, a call to serve You as priests or religious either for the Diocese or for Missionary work. Give them the guidance and courage to answer Your call so that they may give themselves completely in Your service, without reservation. This we ask through Christ, Our Lord. Amen."
THANK YOU
We say farewell to Fr. Ciaran this weekend who will be heading back to his home in Ireland. We thank you, Fr. Ciaran, for being here with us during Fr. Richard's absence. You have been a blessing and a joy and we pray that Our Lord continues to bless you always. Please come back to visit us soon. Love and Thanks from the St. Paul Parish Community.

New sign-up sheets for the Vocation Cross are on the bulletin board in the Church Vestibule. Please be present to take the Cross home for the week you sign up, and to return it the following weekend. May we all continue to pray for vocations. The Central Texas Voices for Life Ministry is asking for your prayerful consideration as a volunteer for one hour a week praying at our local abortion facility for our most defenseless brothers and sisters, The Unborn. We need volunteers for everyday of the week. Currently we meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and also on the first Saturday. This is a prayer ministry but in the event that those seeking abortion want someone to talk to, we make ourselves available to give helpful information for loving alternatives to abortion through literature and referral to the many help centers available. If interested, please call Linda Busti at 289-7511 for more details. Are you a stay-at-home mom? Are you looking for some interaction for both you and your little ones? Then join St. Paul's Playgroup. Moms and children meet twice a week for 1 - 2 hours. We plan many activities - outings to the park, birthday celebrations, field trips, arts and crafts, and even a few Mom's night out. The Summer Schedule of Activities is now available. For more information, please call Katie Ernst at (698-1989). BEFORE scheduling any events or meetings in the Parish Hall, Parish Office, or Religious Formation Building, please contact Randy Sumerall at 554-8355. Thank you for helping things to work smoothly. We bid farewell to many parishioners who will be leaving us, and thank them for their presence and support. May God's blessings and guidance go with you. Know that you will be in our prayers. Please copy this form and place it in the collection basket or give to Father Richard. [OR SEND AN E-MAIL WITH THIS INFO. New Parishioners We welcome all the new parishioners who have recently joined this parish. As you know, every Catholic family must be registered in a parish of their choosing. The parish then assumes responsibility for that family in the administration of the Sacraments and the pastor becomes "their" priest. That is why we have to actually register before we can be classified as a member. We have these registration forms available in the church porch; please complete one and then hand it into the Office or give it to Father Richard. You will notice that in this church we try to have a sense of quietness before and after Holy Mass so as to give an opportunity for people to have a few moments of personal prayer. Then when we go outside we can talk and greet one another. You will also notice that during the Creed, we bow profoundly during the words "by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man." When we come forward to receive Holy Communion, we also either genuflect or bow while the person before us is receiving the Host. Having received the host, we step aside for a moment before proceeding to receive the Precious Blood (where we do not make any bow or genuflection). The minister will hand us the chalice; take it firmly in both hands, taking your time before handing it back. If you are not receiving the Precious Blood, you proceed directly to your bench to kneel down, not genuflecting or bowing. We keep kneeling and praying until the Tabernacle door is closed after Communion. Whenever we enter or leave our bench, except at Communion time, we genuflect, or if unable to do this, we bow profoundly. Your responsibility is to support by prayer and involvement in parish activities, and by sharing your time, talent and treasure in a realistic and practical way. The days of just attending Sunday Mass and putting a few dollars in the basket are long gone. Many years ago, this parish decided to take their Catholic Life seriously, whereby each member would give some time each week in active participation in parish affairs as well as financially supporting the parish by using the weekly envelopes for parish expenses, and the Building Fund envelopes for paying off the Building Debts. It was agreed that the minimum amount given in the Collection basket in loose cash by an adult would be $5.00, $2.00 from teenagers and $1.00 from young children. This would, of course, not refer to families who use the weekly envelopes. |
|
|
A Special Book Our deceased parishioners will be remembered in a special book which will be perpetually kept in the Sanctuary of the Church. We will reserve these books for our parishioners who have died since the parish opened twelve years ago. If you have a family member whose name you wish inscribed in this book, please provide Name, Date of Birth, and Date of Death to Father Richard at your convenience. |
|
|
Liturgical Bowing At Mass When we recite the Creed at Mass, it is the proper liturgical gesture to make a profound bow while we recite the words "by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man." On Christmas Day and the Feast of the Annunciation, we genuflect. We also either genuflect or bow while the person before us is receiving the Host during Holy Communion, whether at Mass or during a Communion Service. |
