FROM THE DESK OF
FATHER RICHARD:
Dear
Parishioners,
Following
last weekend's Pastoral Letter from Bishop Joe Vásquez regarding the
announcement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that it will
not make any significant changes to its mandate that all health plans cover
sterilization and FDA-approved contraceptives, many parishioners have asked for
more information about how this will impact upon the safeguard that was in force
by law entitled, "Respect for the Rights of Conscience Act," which
respects the moral teachings of people. More information can be found at
www.usccb.org/conscience or at the
website for the Diocese of Austin,
www.austindiocese.org . Bills have been filed in both the U.S. House and
Senate to remove this rule and the statement from the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services, that Religious organizations have until 20 September 2013 to
prepare for this change. What is difficult to understand is how the Department
could imagine that Religious citizens would ever violate their consciences by
changing their moral and ethical teaching during the next year. That is
Relativism, which has permeated our society and runs counter to the values
of the 10 Commandments and authentic Christian teaching.
Maybe
this is the time for us Catholics and indeed, so many people of Religious
conviction, to stand up and be counted by contacting their members of Congress
and Senate to express their objection to this violation of the freedom of
conscience, which is the very foundation of the religious liberty which we enjoy
in our beloved country.*
GOD
BLESS!
Father Ciarán MacCarthaigh, MSC, who has supplied at this Parish for the last few years, would like to thank everyone for the emails, cards, good wishes, care, concern and love during this time of his cancer treatments. Fr. Ciarán wishes to assure everyone that they are a great source of inspiration. The friendship and love are very much appreciated, and he regrets not being able to visit this summer, but sends his love and prayers.

PLEASE SIGN-UP FOR THE VOCATIONS CROSS !
We are all aware of the need for many more vocations to the Priesthood. The Catholic Church is spreading fast over all the world and likewise in the Diocese of Austin. We are asking each family in our parish to take the Vocation Cross home with them for one week and during that week, to say the prayers for vocations that are on the base of the cross-holder. We have a cross for each of our four weekend Masses, so it is necessary to have one family per each weekend Mass. We ask that a family sign-up on the Vocation Cross List located on the bulletin board in the Church, for whatever date they choose. On that date, at the end of Mass, the family will be called up to receive the Cross, then take it home and return it the following weekend. Please take your turn to pray for Vocations in this manner. It will be a great day when a young man is ordained to the Priesthood at St. Paul Chong Hasang Parish.
Book of Remembrance
In case you have just joined this parish, we have a special Book of Remembrance containing the names of our Soldiers who have or are being deployed. We ask that you enter the Soldiers' names in it and at each Mass, it is brought forward at the Offertory of the Mass and placed in the Sanctuary.
PLEASE PRAY FOR AND PATRONIZE OUR BULLETIN SPONSORS
We thank our Bulletin Sponsors for placing their advertisements in our weekly bulletins. Because of their patronage, we can offer our bulletins free of charge to our parishioners. We thank all our sponsors for this valuable service. It also provides new parishioners a place to find assistance when they are looking for help with their various needs. This is especially important for our new military families recently stationed here. What a wonderful ministry at work. THANK YOU, SPONSORS!!
