Communion for the Homebound helps extend the parish’s care to Catholics who are unable to participate in Mass because of illness, hospitalization, residence in a care facility, or limited mobility. Through this ministry, the Eucharist is brought to people who are sick and to others who need pastoral support at home or in a care setting.
St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church’s Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion include taking the Eucharist to the sick. Ministers visit patients at Seton Hospital daily from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m., seven days a week. They also serve residents at Rosewood and Indian Oaks by arrangement with designated points of contact.
Ministers receive training that includes taking the Eucharist to the sick and preparing a sick-call kit. A visit may include prayer, a respectful period of quiet, and the distribution of Holy Communion according to Catholic pastoral practice.
